Ritha Umutoni began her journey with a strong passion to create opportunities for women and youth in Rwanda. Without coming from a coffee business background, she was inspired by the potential of Rwanda’s high quality coffee and the challenges faced by smallholder farmers, especially women who had limited access to markets and fair income.

Driven by purpose, she started RIXU Coffee to bridge this gap connecting farmers directly to markets while promoting value addition within Rwanda. Through determination, learning, and participation in international exhibitions, she gradually built partnerships and positioned RIXU Coffee as an emerging women-led coffee brand with global ambition.

Early Journey of Ritha Umutoni

Building RIXU

Through resilience, innovation, and strategic partnerships, she established RIXU as a premium 100% Rwanda Arabica coffee brand. Today, RIXU represents quality, sustainability, and women empowerment, positioning Rwanda as a global competitor in specialty coffee markets. The company has gained recognition including the Coffee Award at Warsaw Tea & Coffee Expo 2025, and now exports to France, Slovakia, UAE, Sweden, Finland, and Belgium, with expansion plans into EU, Middle East, and North America.
